Overview of our Thomas style practice package

Our Thomas International style practice package prepares you for the General Intelligence Assessment (GIA).

Preparing for Thomas GIA style tests:

The Thomas GIA test consists of:

  1. Spatial reasoning – Abstract.
  2. Perceptual speed – Abstract.
  3. Speed and accuracy – Numerical.
  4. Reasoning – Verbal.
  5. Word meaning – Verbal.

Spatial reasoning

On the basis of several exemplary figures, it must be determined which figures are identical. Two options are possible here. The figure can be rotated or mirrored. A figure only counts as an identical figure when it is rotated. Because they are the same figures, but mirrored, spatial insight is very important.

The practice package explains the difference between mirroring and turning. If this is known, solving these questions is relatively easy. Again speed and accuracy are very important. That is why Hellotest’s training package builds up in numbers and variations of figures.

Perceptual speed

Perception speed is also a unique component for the Thomas International assessment. Perception measures at which speed and accuracy letter pairs can be determined.

Finding a letter pair is relatively easy. An example of a letter pair is an A and an a. An example that is not a letter pair is a V and a w. They are not the same.

The number of correct letter pairs must be determined for this section. Even though this is relatively easy. It is very difficult to do this quickly and accurately. Through the Hellotest exercise package you can build up in difficulty. First you learn to practice speed and accuracy with one letter pair and this builds up to a maximum of six letter pairs. This is the best preparation for the assessment.

Speed and accuracy

Speed and accuracy requires being able to solve a specific arithmetic problem very quickly. An example of the arithmetic problem is the set 15 – 22 – 9. Nine and 22 are the smallest and the largest number, 15 is the remaining number. The distance between the smallest number is (15 – 9) = 6. The distance between the largest number and the remaining number is (22 – 15) = 7. The correct answer is therefore 13.

In order to train the resolution of numerical speed and accuracy as well as possible, the Hellotest training package builds up from small numerical distances (0 to 10) up to and including the distances between -40 and 40. Thanks to the quiet structure, quick question solving is practiced and the level rises slowly.

Reasoning

The reasoning component is a test for verbal reasoning. A conclusion must be assessed on the basis of propositions. An example is the statement that Jennifer is smaller than Pete. Who is the tallest then? In this case Pete must be the tallest. Of course on the GIA these questions will be more difficult including more propositions.

The type of statements can be formulated both positively and negatively. The conclusion can also be formulated positively and negatively. As a result, there are various demand combinations. All these variations can be extensively practiced in the Hellotest exercise package.

Word meaning

Word meaning most closely resembles a more familiar part, word relationships. On the basis of three words the word must be chosen which has no relation with the other two words. Those other two words are either a contradiction, or a synonym.

To become good at this topic, it is important to become familiar with the most commonly used antonyms and synonyms. Because the practice package from Hellotest contains a lot of practice material, this is a very good preparation.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Hellotest practice material developed?

We have been active as assessment trainers since 2012. In the first instance you could only come to us for personal training:

  • one on one training,
  • group training,
  • workshops and training at universities and career fairs.

In 2015 we decided to put our developed training material online so that our candidates could practice after training.
Thanks to our many years of experience as an assessment trainer, we know exactly which variations exist for a component. We have developed questions about these components for each variation.
We have combined that knowledge with the parts that certain agencies require. We have been able to determine which variations are used by which agency. Then you will find the right variations in your training package.

How often can I retake the lessons / quizzes?

You can take our lessons and practice tests as often as you want during your subscription. If you want to retake a lesson or practice test, you can reset the lesson or quiz yourself via a button.

Can I practice with a timer?

All our practice tests are provided with a timer. The duration of the practice tests corresponds to the time that you get on the real test.

Our lessons are not provided with a timer. In this way you can become comfortable with all the questions and take as long as you want.

Where can I use the practice package?

All the training material is available online. So you can use it everywhere, as long as you have a working internet connection.

Our training material can be used on all modern devices (mobile, tablet, laptop and desktop) and in all modern browsers (IE, Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari etc.).

In which languages is the practice material available?

English.

Can I get help if I get stuck with the material?

If you have questions about the exercise material you can always ask them here. We try to get back to you in two business days.

How do I know if I am ready for the assessment?

In our e-learning system, the recommended score is indicated for each practice test. That way you can estimate whether your score is good enough to start the real test.

You can do the practice tests until your score is good enough.

Who are we

Our aim is to help you get your dream job. Aptitude tests are used by most employers nowadays and are a major hurdle to candidates. As many as 50% of the candidates do not pass their aptitude test. We find this unfair.

By preparing for your aptitude test you can easily pass the test. You are not cheating, you are getting prepared. If you have never solved number sequences or never even seen a figure sequence you will not get a high score on your test. You may even fail. By practicing, you will be familiar with such types of questions. Now, you can actually take the test.
